Coaching & Mentoring - Level 3 Award

Course length 

39 hours - usually 13 weekly sessions of 3 hours. 

Who is the course for? 

This course is intended for those who wish to take the first step in training to be an independent life coach or a mentor. The course is suitable for those who want to use life coaching skills and techniques in a variety of settings and roles. 

Entry requirements 

Learners must be at least 18 years old. You must have English at level 2 and Maths at level 1. You should already have completed one of the following qualifications;

  • Level 2 Award in Introduction to Counselling Skills
  • Level 2 Award in Effective Listening Skills
  • Level 2 Award in Listening Support Skills
  • Learning Support (mentoring) Level 2 Certificate
  • Health and Social Care Level 2

There is no requirement for external personal life-coaching sessions. However, it is strongly recommended that candidates undertake some form of external personal development. There is no requirement for client work, but the candidate can use the skills and techniques learned in both the workplace and in personal settings. 

All applicants must be interviewed prior to being accepted onto the course. 

Course content 

You will learn about: 

  • building resilience  
  • the principles of coaching and mentoring
  • the skills required of a coach
  • skill required of a mentor 
  • the impact of coaching and mentoring on the individual, team and organisational performance

Will I gain any qualifications? 

You will gain TQUK Coaching & Mentoring - Level 3 Award  

What could this course lead to? 

Level 4 Diploma in Life Coaching or Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills and Therapy. 

Your commitments as a learner 

To achieve success, you will need to attend regularly. If you need to miss a class, please let us know in advance. You will need to allow sufficient time for self-study and complete any homework set. You will be expected to complete all assessments and complete the full course.

What materials or equipment will I need to provide? 

You will need a pen, paper and a folder for your work.  

Other information 

Although no formal qualification is required to practice as a life coach, a level 4 in Life Coaching would be recommended to start a private practice. Learners will be required to self-fund for this qualification.
