Herprit Rana, Head of Department
Why did you join BAES?
This was a career promotion for myself and I was relocating to the Midlands to be closer to my family.
Tell us about your day - hours you work, who are your direct reports
I work from 9-5, but vary my hours to allow me to complete project work. I enjoy working flexibily to meet my own and my team's targets. Each day is different. One day I could be working on a million pound budget and the next day I could be supporting our facilities and reviewing resources for a particular project, and this level of variety drives me and keeps me engaged.
How has BAES supported your career development?
BAES being the biggest adult education provider in the UK has given me the opportunity to learn new skills. I am also a member of the senior leadership team (SLT) which is made up of varying levels of experiences and skills which I am also able to learn from.
What values in the workplace are important to you?
Being valued for the contribution I make and being given the trust to do my job and having the support available as and when required.
What's the best thing about working at BAES in Birmingham City Council?
Flexible working, variety in the work and the people you get to work with, across all levels of the council.
