Birmingham Adult Education Service (BAES) is one of the largest adult learning providers nationally with around 7,000 adults studying with us every year.

We are a “first steps” provider and a perfect way to get back into learning if you have been out of education for a while, or school wasn’t a comfortable fit. Our part-time courses begin at basic entry levels and progress up to level 3 qualification courses (A level equivalent).

Many learners study with us to gain the skills and qualifications they need to enter or return to the workplace.

Learners on leisure courses in arts, crafts, digital media and languages talk about the positive boost that learning for personal pleasure has on their mental health and well-being.

Why choose to study with us?

At BAES we appreciate that one-size doesn’t always fit all

We have many years’ experience of helping adults develop new skills and brush up their existing ones. Our experienced and qualified staff pride themselves on making sure that the study programme you follow is the right fit, and at the right level for you to succeed in reaching your life and career goals.

More good news is that our courses in the essential skills - English maths and IT - are free, as are other qualification and leisure courses for those on income-related benefits, or those who earn less than £30,000 per annum.

We offer a wide range of vocational subjects including computers, accounts, mentoring, counselling skills and health and social care that will give you a great start in these employment sectors. At BAES we embed enrichment activities and real-life learning opportunities into courses so a broad spectrum of useful and transferable skills can be developed.

Assessments and enrolments for the next term (September - December) have now started so you can book your place straightaway. To find out more about our courses and the support available email This email address is being protected from spambots.
