When Bev was at school, she had loved French, but her A Level choices meant she couldn't continue to study it.

That was until Spring 2019 when passing the Library of Birmingham, she decided the time was right to pick it up again. Starting at the Beginners level she has quickly progressed to nearly Intermediate level.

Initially, a quiet learner in the classroom, she now enjoys the group atmosphere and being with like-minded people who want to learn a new language.

When Bev started the course, she was working at National Express in an administration role. She has recently moved to a job as an Operations Analyst at Birmingham Airport. As her career progresses, Bev expects to engage more with passengers and knows her language skills will hold her in good stead. Part of the appeal of continuing on the course is that her language skills can open up exciting new career opportunities. Someday in the future Bev is keen to try to work abroad.

Now that travelling has become easier, she and a group of friends had a trip to Paris where Bev was able to put her language skills into practice. She says

"People are really appreciative when you try to engage with them in their own language. Everyone I spoke to in shops and restaurants was really patient with me."

Bev really enjoys learning with Christine her tutor and wants to eventually progress to the Advanced Conversation and Culture course. While she studies towards this, she will continue to use her love of French for fun, travel and work.
