Erika is one of life’s creatives. She’s always had a passion for the more imaginative industries and, in 2017, whilst on maternity leave, she enrolled on a BAES workshop in Floristry.

Not wanting to return to her previous career, and struggling with confidence, communication skills and applying for jobs, her hope was that this would set her on a path to a more creative career.

She loved the Celebration and Valentine Floristry Workshop, which spurred her on to take an Advanced Techniques in Floristry straight away, closely followed by a course in Jewellery Making.

Despite the enjoyment she gained from these courses, she didn’t completely connect with the subjects. It wasn’t until she enrolled on a Level 1 in Graphic Design that she really felt like she’d found her place in the world. Erika was hooked. She loved having the opportunity to think creatively and come up with new ideas, whilst the positive feedback she received from her fellow-learners really helped to boost her confidence. Presenting and sharing her ideas in class have also helped her to develop her communication skills.

Once she’d completed Level 1 in Graphic Design, Erika progressed straight to the Level 2 and she now has her heart set on a career as a professional graphic designer.
