After losing his job, Imran found it difficult to find new employment. To make ends meet, he worked long hours as a taxi driver.

It was during this period in his life he heard a motivational speaker who captured Imran's imagination and had a profound effect on his life.

He had said:

“You only have one life, so make it count by doing something you are proud of, that makes a difference to your country, your city, your community, or your family.”

He was inspired and relocated to Birmingham in 2012 to achieve his dreams.

At first, the goal of becoming a qualified electrician led him to enrol at college. It wasn’t enough though, and he knew in his heart that something was missing. After talking with family, he decided he wanted to go to university. To meet the entry requirements, he needed more GCSEs, and this is where his path crossed with BAES. Meeting Arben, his maths teacher, was a turning point for Imran. Arben spoke about his own educational journey in a way that inspired him. Determined to succeed, he first achieved his maths GCSE and then took the big step of starting a degree.

Attending the University of Birmingham City (BCU), he achieved a 2:1, following this with a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (MSc), which he has recently passed with a distinction.

Imran feels he now has a wide range of job opportunities available to him. He has been asked to consider applying for a position as a visiting lecturer at University. He is also applying for jobs related to the automotive industry, confident that he now has the skills and knowledge to be a success.
