Enterprising Robert makes sure he has the skills he needs to keep ahead.

Robert, a learner demonstrating that hard work, commitment and planning is the perfect recipe for success

In a rapidly-changing jobs environment, it's vital to be flexible, have a range of different talents and be determined to make things happen.

Robert's example shows that perseverance also pays off, having spent a number of years struggling to find the right education and employment opportunities.

And now, thanks to his get up and go attitude he is poised to launch his own property management and maintenance service. Not only that, he has developed his photography skills to a level that could also start to generate additional income.

The secret to success...

Robert's secret was to set himself long-term goals, which he then backed up with hard work and entrepreneurial flair.

His story so far...

Robert arrived in Birmingham three years ago and started laying the foundations of his business ambitions. Working with a friend, Robert bought a domain name and created a basic webpage for his business; however, he knew he now needed to take it to the next level so he could stand out from his competitors. That's when he enrolled on a Website Apps and Programming Level 1 course where due to his hard work and commitment he excelled.

Robert has made the most of other opportunities available to him with Birmingham Adult Education Service and has also added Level 2 qualifications in IT and Accounts along with Advanced Photography skills to his portfolio of skills and knowledge.

It's fair to say that the long-term plan is coming together!
