I've worked in Adult Education for nearly 11 years, but only recently decided that I was going to do a course. I chose to take up a floristry class on Saturday mornings at my local centre.

I'm now over half way through the course and I'm extremely pleased with what I've managed to create and so glad I did it! Surprising myself, I've learnt how to make the simplest of plants more attractive by getting creative with craft skills that I never knew I had. I can honestly say it's given me a great sense of achievement.

Have I found the course quite challenging? Yes and no. I've picked up many skills quickly, but on the downside some work can be quite fiddly and it takes patience to get the techniques just right. I've learnt you don't know what you can achieve until you give it a go!

So if there's a course you want to do, don't sit there thinking that you can't, because you can!

Here's some examples of what I've made.....

Basic Button Hole

A small pink rose, based with dark green ivy leaves and decorated with 5 colourful beads strung through some silver & light pink decorative bullion wire.

Gift Wrapping & Bow Making

A pink mini rose potted plant gift-wrapped with red and black tissue paper, lined in-between two gold polka dot cellophane sheets. Then decorated and tied with a bow created from some red poly ribbon.

Aqua Pac

Rose Bouquet with foliage consisting of peach, red, orange and yellow colour roses, gypsophila, green wheat branches, rucus, viburnum plicatum, and maroon coloured peruvian lilies. Gift-wrapped in orange and yellow tissue paper, lined in-between gold polka dot cellophane.

Hi.

Your work is just beautiful.
I am interested in floristry but not sure where to start. Do I need a qualification? You mentioned you started at your local centre....how can I find out where my local florist centre is as i am based in Birmingham?

Hello

Thank you very much for your kind words. You could technically study floristry by doing some leisure course which are non-qualification courses and build up your skills for which you would receive attendance certificates. However if you were interested in pursuing work and working for a florist then I would recommend doing our qualification courses.
