Entry Requirements

Your English skills need to be at Entry Level 1 or above.

Your Maths skills and problem-solving abilities will be assessed before joining the course to ensure that it is the right level. You will be expected to carry out at least 1 hour of extra study in your own time, every week.

Initial Assessment

To gain a place on the course, you must book an initial assessment by calling the BAES Info Line (0121 303 4318) or one of the BAES centres. Initial assessments are generally carried out remotely on Zoom although you can book a face-to-face assessment. Depending on the results of the assessment, you may be advised to join a different level or a course.

Learning Strategies

It is important that you attend all sessions and make time to work at home every week to prepare, practise and consolidate your learning. BAES provides an online virtual learning environment (Moodle) and has a subscription to the website MyMaths, which you can access for practice and revision.

Progress Monitoring

Your progress and attendance will be monitored throughout the course. After the first few sessions, you and your teacher will determine if you can cope with the level of work required and if you can demonstrate good attendance and punctuality, in order to continue with the course.

Exams

There will be one formal paper-based exam, which will be taken towards the end of the course. You can complete this in the classroom when you are ready. The exam will consist of 2 papers: a non-calculator and a calculator paper.

Progression

This course could lead to a Maths Entry 3 Functional Skills course or a Working Towards Entry 3 Maths course.
