ESOL - Entry 1
Who is this course for?
Adults (19+) who speak another language and want to improve their English to live and work in the UK. The course is free for learners on certain benefits.
Course aims
- To improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening in English and to help you in your everyday life and work.
- To improve your IT skills for basic communication.
- To help you understand Prevent, Safeguarding, e-safety and British Values.
What qualifications do I need?
No qualifications are needed to join this course. You will be assessed and placed into a class suitable for your level.
Course structure
The course is made up of 3 parts: Speaking & Listening, Reading and Writing.
What will I learn?
At the end of this course, you should be able to:
- write the letters of the alphabet using upper and lower case
- spell words important to you, like your address and the names of people in your family
- complete a simple form
- develop your vocabulary on a range of everyday topics
- ask and answer simple questions
- write simple sentences with the correct punctuation
- recognise common words and also common signs and symbols
- recognise the different cultures in the UK and the festivals that are celebrated
How will I learn?
- Attend 3 sessions per week. Each session is 2.5 hours. You are expected to attend all 3 sessions every week.
- You will agree personal goals with your teacher.
- Complete homework.
- Regular 1:1 meetings with your teacher to talk about your progress.
Will I gain any qualifications?
You will complete exams in Entry 1 Speaking & Listening, Reading and Writing.
What could this course lead to?
This course could lead to an ESOL Entry 2 course and could also help you to find a job.
