Course aims
These qualifications are designed to be an introduction to the skills required to support learners in a wide range of contexts. They will offer the opportunity to understand how to support others to learn and to recognize a range of challenging issues and identify ways to overcome them.
What could these courses lead to?
These courses can lead to employment as an assistant in a school setting and as a route into higher education.
Job roles include: Classroom Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Worker within a Special Educational Needs team, Workplace Mentoring, Working in a charity, Own a business, Prison or Probation Service, Retail and Hospitality, Sport
Course length
60 hours – usually 20 weekly sessions of 3 hours.
Who is this course for?
This qualification is designed to introduce people to some basic mentoring skills and their application to work roles and everyday life contexts.
Entry requirements
Learners must be at least 18 years old. You must have English at least at level 1 and Maths at Entry 3 or above.
All applicants must be interviewed prior to being accepted on to the course.
Course content
You will learn about:
- building resilience
- mentoring relationship between the mentor and mentee
- key stages within the mentoring process
- specific skills and understanding required in order to mentor
- how to review your own learning and performance in the mentoring role.
Will I gain any qualifications?
You will gain TQUK Level 1 Award in Mentoring.
How will I learn?
You will be taught and supported by a tutor. You will be expected to attend your group once a week and take part in group and paired activities and discussions. You will build a portfolio of evidence and complete specific tasks with the guidance of your tutor. Independent study and research are required.

To achieve success on the course you will need to attend regularly and on time. If you need to miss a class, please let us know in advance. You will need to ensure that you allow sufficient time for self-study and complete any homework set. You will be expected to complete all assessments and complete the full course.
