Mentoring - Level 2 Certificate
Course length
25 weeks, 2 hours per week = 50 hours
Who is the course for?
Learners must be at least 16 years old. This qualification is for those working as or looking to work as mentors.
Course content
- You will understand how to support others to learn and progress.
- You will understand how the ability to learn can be affected by a wide range of personal, social or environmental factors.
- You will understand the steps needed to build and negotiate a mentoring relationship.
- You will be supported in building and maintaining a mentoring relationship for the duration of the course.
Will I gain any qualifications?
AptEd Level 2 Certificate in learning support (QCF) (Including units on mentoring and negotiation skills)
Do I need any knowledge, skills or qualifications?
You will normally have completed the mentoring level 1 award. You must have English at Level 2 or GCSE Grade A-C and maths at level 1 or equivalent.
What could this course lead to?
Job roles include:
- Learning mentor in a school or college.
- Support worker.
- Mentor within current job role.
How will I learn?
Your qualification will be assessed by your tutor using a range of methods. You will complete a portfolio of evidence throughout the course. You will have weekly teaching sessions for 2 hours.
What materials or equipment will I need to provide?
You will need proof of ID. Writing equipment and a USB Memory stick.

To achieve success on the course you will need to:
- Attend regularly. If you need to miss a class, please let us know in advance, if possible.
- Have sufficient time for self-study and completion of homework.
- Complete the course.
- Complete all the assessments.
