Course aims

  • To improve circulation, flexibility, suppleness, strength, breathing, cardio-vascular activity, stamina and co-ordination.
  • To warm muscles and mobilise joints.
  • To be able to relax and focus the mind, alleviate stress, gain confidence and have fun.
  • To learn the basics of body mechanics and body alignment and the effects of exercise on health and fitness.

Learning outcomes

  • Develop/maintain strength and suppleness.
  • Increased understanding of structure of the body.
  • Develop the use of small apparatus to extend movement and add variety.
  • Develop/maintain a sense of confidence and well being.
  • Appreciation of the importance of warming up and cooling down.

Reasonably active over 50s.

Do I need any knowledge, skills or qualifications?

No.

Will I gain any qualifications?

No.

How will I learn?

Through tutor demonstrations and practical activities.

What could this course lead to?

Demonstration teams, higher level groups, option for teacher training courses.

What materials or equipment will I need to provide?

Loose clothing (preferably layered), not restricted round waist, non-slip shoes and a drink.

Learners will need to complete a health check questionnaire before starting the course to check its suitability for them.
