Is my child school-ready?
Duration: 6 weeks long course or 2 hour workshops
Content: This course aims to explore life skills children need to have developed when transitioning from home/nursery to primary school or primary to secondary school.
Learners will find out about -
- strategies to support their child’s emotional wellbeing
- techniques that develop self-help skills, encourage independence and build positive routines
- how to support their child with numbers, reading and writing
- how to stay safe online and safety tips when using social media
- how to develop healthy relationships
Empowering children - Parts 1 & 2
Duration: Each part course is 6 weeks long.
Content: This course gives learners opportunities to have one to one time with their child whilst developing emotional and social skills.
The course enhances parenting skills and gives space to discuss strategies and approaches that can lead to happier parenting.
Learners will -
- learn a range of techniques to strengthen the relationship between parent and child.
- improve their ability to support their child’s behaviour, social and life skills.
- improve communication between parent and child.
- explore children’s development and needs.
- explore legislation around Child Protection and Safeguarding
Storytelling
Duration: This course is 6 weeks long.
Content: This course aims to help parents and children in their journey of improving English skills and exploring the importance of children’s stories.
Learners will -
- improve motivation and ability to read to their children
- explore different storytelling techniques.
- develop an understanding of the importance of reading and exploring stories together
- improve English verbal skills and confidence
Phonics play - Part 1 & 2
Duration: 6 weeks long or 2 hour workshop
Content: These courses aim to explore the phonics learning-to-read method by guiding parents to support their children to link sounds to letters to enable them to read words and sentences.
Learners will explore -
- practical techniques to build confidence in reading skills
- key terminology
- blending sounds by modelling
- decoding and encoding clusters, digraphs and trigraphs
- spelling rules, tricky words and high frequency words
Introduction to childcare
Duration: 6 weeks or 2 hour workshop
Content: Introduction to Childcare aims to support learners to make an informed decision whether they want to work in a childcare setting.
Learner will find out how to:
- identify health and safety requirements within a childcare setting
- recognise activities that will support children’s development
- understand the importance of being professional when working with children
Homework havens
Duration: 2 hour workshops.
Content: This workshop offers a supportive and inclusive environment where children and parents/carers can come together to work on different activities to improve essential skills and/or complete children’s homework.
Learners will find out about -
- strategies to support your child with learning
- to support children to be more independent and confident in their learning
- how to support their child with maths and English
Build it together
Duration: 6 weeks long course or 2 hour workshops.
Content: This course aims to explore and improve skills children and parents use when building something together.
Learners will find out about -
- strategies to work in a team
- techniques that develop self-help skills, encourage independence and improve creative thinking
- how to support their child with numbers, reading and writing
- how to develop ideas for activities that will build bonds between family members

Learners will need access to a tablet/laptop/smartphone or PC. They will also need an email address and access to the internet.
What could these courses lead to?
On completion of these courses all learners will receive a certificate of achievement and it could lead to further accredited qualifications from Entry 3 to Level 3 Childcare and Supported Teaching and Learning courses.
At the end of the course, we will provide information about other learning opportunities and courses for adults to join in the local area.
Computer Skills: Community Learning
Computer Skills
Introduction to computer skills
Duration: This course is 6 weeks long
Content: This course aims to provide a simple hands on introduction to enhance learner’s digital skills.
Learners will be taught how to -
- switch on a computer safely and shut it down
- enter text and numbers using a keyboard and mouse
- use word-processing to type words and numbers
- use the internet safely and legally
Computer skills - Beginners: Part 1 & Part 2
Duration: Each part is 6 weeks long
Content: This course supports learners in acquiring the basics digital skills needed for everyday life and become more confident in using a computer or a laptop.
Learners will be taught how to -
- create simple Word documents
- create and use an email address
- be safe online
- find information from the internet that is useful and of interest to you
- use the internet safely and legally
Computer skills - Beginners Plus: Part 1 & Part 2
This course aims to improve learners basic digital skills working at their own pace and focus on the areas they wish to develop, supported by the teacher.
Learners will be taught how to -
- develop word processing skills
- improve the display of a word document
- use computers to search for basic useful information
- read, send and receive emails
- download files from the internet
- safe and responsible online
Computer skills - next steps
This course aims to enable learners to improve on their digital skills and progress towards an accredited Digital Skills course.
Learners will find out about -
- the basics of using the internet
- how to working with online forms
- using personal data safely online
Course requirements
Learners will need access to a tablet/laptop/smartphone or PC. They will also need an email address and access to the internet.
What could these courses lead to?
On completion of these courses all learners will receive a certificate of achievement and it could lead to further accredited qualifications such as IT skills for employment and ICDL level 1 and 2.

Healthy Living: Community Learning
Healthy Living
Healthy eating
Duration: 6 weeks or 2 hour workshops.
Content: The course aims to provide a better understanding of the importance of eating a healthy balanced diet by making well informed choices and good eating behaviours.
Learners will learn about -
- which food is healthy and unhealthy, including the five major food groups as well as incorporating five a day
- food portions, calories and processed food
- the effects of unhealthy food and diet
- how to cook in a healthy way
Waste not, want not
Duration: This course is 6 weeks long.
Content: This course aims to raise awareness of how to be more sustainable with food and use a practical approach to reduce waste.
Learners will be taught how to -
- understand their own food waste behavior
- strategies needed to reduce food waste
- money saving skills when shopping for food
Sow and grow
Duration: This course is 6 weeks long.
Content: This course aims to develop your know ledge and skills for growing your own plants, fruit, vegetables herbs and flowers.
Learners will find out -
- about the benefits of growing your own fruit, vegetables and herbs
- when and what seeds to plant based on seasons and months
- grow plants, fruit, vegetables from off cuts
- about cross pollination and pruning
- about making compost and how to use pesticides and fertilizers
- how to be safe while working in the garden
Active life
Duration: This course is 6 weeks long.
Content: This course aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills to be able to lead an active healthy lifestyle.
Learners will -
- identify the importance of physical activity and healthy living
- know how to make activity and lifestyle changes
Healthy body
Duration: 6 weeks or 2 hour workshops.
Content: This course aims to explore a variety of factors that contribute to a healthy body and the challenges and barriers we may experience when maintaining a healthy body. During this course you will also learn about different health conditions, their causes and how to reduce the risk.
You will learn about -
- the major organs and bones in the body and their function
- factors that contribute to a healthy body
- health concerns - causes and symptoms of high and low blood pressure / heart disease / diabetes / obesity / arthritis / cancer/ virus / infections
- the Immune system and Detoxification
- hygiene and beauty
- how to create a personal plan which will help you to work towards a healthy body
Taste the world
Duration: 6 week course or 2 hour workshops.
Content: This course aims to introduce foods from different parts of the world alongside activities and information about the different cultures. Learners will learn
- to make a variety of foods from different parts of the world
- about the similarities and differences of food across cultures
- about the carbon footprint of foods found in the UK and fair trade

Content: We have an exciting Creative Arts package that aims to motivate our learners to become more creative. Our courses aim to improve learner’s motivation and identify opportunities for progression to a qualification in a chosen area.
Learners will learn the basic skills in a range of subjects
Our Introduction to Creative Arts package gives 6 different tasters over 6 weeks where learners can explore different activities and techniques.
Drawing & Painting
Explore using different paint and paper and learn about the basic skills of drawing.
Hair & Beauty
Cleansing skin, make-up step by step guide, basic hair styles, curling and straightening.
Cake Art
Explore basic cake decorating skills, Health and Safety aspects related to food safety. Explore seasonal and cultural festivals through baking.
Digital Art
Draw digitally using different software.
Textiles
Develop an understanding and experience of using different textile processes and techniques.
Floristry
Explore and use different types of flower arranging tools. Learn basic techniques to make simple flower arrangements
Jewellery Making / Resin
Clay
Explore and use different types of clay. Use various clay making tools. Make a coil pot using basic clay techniques.
Arabic Calligraphy
This course aims to introduce Arabic handwriting in a fluid manner to convey harmony, grace and beauty.

Content: This course provides an opportunity to understand the importance of managing anxieties and developing simple strategies to support emotional and mental wellbeing. We aim to equip learners with the right tools to empower themselves in the face of everyday challenges in life.
Learners will be taught how to -
- to use different strategies to build resilience and empower themselves
- self-motivate themselves to reach their goals
- find a good balance to maintain a positive outlook on life

Duration: 6 weeks or 2 hour workshops.
Content: This course offers a supportive and inclusive environment where learners can explore different strategies to manage their mental health challenges.
Learners will find out about -
- strategies to overcome negative attitudes to mental health
- new ideas to improve their mental wellbeing
- how to communicate effectively and seek support to maintain good mental health
Wellbeing and mindfulness
Duration: 6 weeks or 2 hour workshops.
Content: This course aims to improve wellbeing through various activities such as art, yoga, diet, and self-reflection.
Learners will -
- use mindfulness as a tool to reduce stress and anxiety
- use mindfulness as a tool to increase self confidence and self-esteem
- explore a variety of self-help activities to address their wellbeing
Healthy relationships

Content: This course aims to provide you with the knowledge and understanding of what a healthy relationship is.

Content: This course offers a supportive and inclusive environment for men to talk about and explore men’s physical and mental health challenges.

- strategies to overcome and manage mental and physical health challenges
- develop new ideas to improve their mental and physical wellbeing
