Preparation for ESOL

Introduction to ESOL: Part 1 & 2

Duration: Each part is 6 weeks long

Content: Learners will learn about  

  • asking for and giving relevant personal information about themself or others. 
  • daily life (greeting, routines) 
  • being out and about (transport) 
  • accessing local services (library, job centre, schools) 
  • shopping (shops, buying food, asking for items in a shop) 
  • healthcare (making an appointment, describing health, going to the chemist) 

ESOL for Beginners: Part 1 & 2

Duration: Each part is 6 weeks long

Content: This course aims to supports learners to build upon their confidence and their English through reading, writing, speaking and listening activities. Learners will learn how to

  • listen and respond to questions
  • speak about their family and people around them
  • read short text using Phonics
  • write simple sentences about themselves
  • express personal preference and capabilities
  • talk about people and jobs
  • explain about their health and body

ESOL - Bridging Course

This course aims to enable learners to improve on their English skills and progress towards a Pre-Entry ESOL course. Learners will learn how to

  • complete simple forms with their and other family members personal information  
  • use new vocabulary relating to a range of topics 
  • read and write the English alphabet
  • spell some personal words correctly
  • write simple sentences about themselves
  • use basic punctuation and grammar 

ESOL for... Driving / Job Seekers / Social Media / Sewing / Childcare

This course aims to supports learners to build upon their English, and supporting and teaching them vocabulary needed for driving, job seeking, using social media, sewing and working in childcare. Learners will learn about

  • vocabulary related to the driving and theory test.
  • vocabulary needed for job interviews and CV writing.
  • vocabulary related to certain interests for example sewing, childcare and social media.

Course requirements

Learners will need access to a tablet / laptop / smartphone or PC. They will also need an email address and access to the internet.

What could these courses lead to?

On completion of the course all learners will receive, a certificate of achievement and this course could lead to further accredited qualifications such as English and ESOL.

At the end of the course, we will provide information about other learning opportunities and courses for adults to join in the local area.
